About

I have been writing songs for most of my life — folk songs, cat songs, wacky songs and a lot of serious songs. Music came first, and it is still the truest thing I do.

I follow Dao, including practicing taijiquan. For the past several years I have been translating the 道德经 (dào dé jīng) and recording a podcast that walks through it one chapter at a time — reading the Chinese, offering a fresh English rendering, and sitting with what the chapter asks.

I've written three books: the Daodejing translation, a novel called The Coding Samurai, and The Guide to Getting Help. I take photographs in places that excite me, bewilder me and slow me down. I apply my INFJ spirit to engaging with nature and travel.

I also keep a small therapy practice in Minneapolis. If you're looking for that, the door is here.
